The market square union was set up a couple of years ago when the former newton abbot market traders association, which encompassed all the markets, was split into two, citing the outdoor traders to be represented on their own.

The then secretary, Lee Branson an outdoor trader who had been the secretary of the association for 6 years decided after some differences, that the market square should go it alone.

since the split, the market square has blossomed into a thriving market, with the union having closer dialogue and agenda with the local town and district councils.
All traders are represented on the market square and  are protected by the union.

we will continue to make sure that the backbone of the town remains the market and the traders livelihoods are paramount to the towns existence and we are here to protect that.
